Where Stafford Township Comes Together

Programs, events, and community connections for every age in Manahawkin, NJ.

About Us

The Stafford Recreation Department runs the full calendar of community life along the Jersey Shore's back bay corridor. From the Cardboard Boat Regatta on Manahawkin Lake to the Summer Concert Series drawing families out on warm evenings, this is the department that turns a municipal address on Pine Street into something people actually look forward to.

The scope here is genuinely broad. Youth athletes get league support and coaches certification resources. Seniors gather through the Senior Squares Social Club and the Stafford Pathfinders Walking and Wellness program. Little ones shake off energy at Wiggles and Giggles and Mini-Harmonies music classes. Community gardens, a Garden Club, and the Weed and Read program put roots in the ground, literally and figuratively.

With a 4.5-star rating from residents and a mission grounded in encouraging citizen involvement, Stafford Recreation does the unglamorous, essential work of keeping a community connected across generations. The department serves Stafford Township, NJ residents and coordinates everything from pavilion permits and the Town Wide Yard Sale to Municipal Alliance programs that address real public health needs.

What We Offer

Stafford Recreation coordinates an unusually wide range of programming for a single municipal department. On the youth side, that includes Summer Camp, youth sports oversight through the Youth Sports Code of Conduct, the Manahawkin Mavericks Challenger League for athletes with disabilities, and Coaches Certification Classes for the volunteers who make it all run.

Adult and senior residents have their own full slate: Exercise and Wellness Classes, the Adult Social Daycare program known as A Friend's House, Senior and Adult Programs and Resources, and the Senior Squares Social Club. Community events fill the year with the Summer Concert Series, Pop-up Summer Markets at Manahawkin Lake, the Manahawkin Lake Festivals, a Car Show, a Green Fair, and the Community Wellness and Resource Fair.

Beyond programming, the department manages Jennifer Lane Bay Beach access, maintains Little Free Food Pantries, coordinates Clubs and Associations across the township, and handles permits for pavilion ceremonies, historic church use, and park facilities. The Parks Guide and Municipal Alliance programs round out a department that genuinely touches every corner of community life in Stafford Township.

"If I could give the person who runs the recreational basketball 0 stars I would. So rude, disorganized, completely nasty, I registered my daughter oct 30th I spoke to someone a few days later. They told me to wait to hear back from someone with her team's information. They never called, so I emailed 3 weeks later which was nov 21st, when I got a response they told me that they already started. Terrible communication. The woman on the phone insulted me, screamed, at me and kicked my daughter off a team that they never even put her on. Would never reccomend to anyone. Terrible."
